Amazing how bored you can get....

... when you get back to work after a week off and there is
NOTHING TO DO

I wouldnt mind so much but 'immediate supervisor' has taken the stand of "Dont go looking for work or they'll find something for us to do" And that is a problem why exactly?
It's really shite when you have googled all the things you meant to do whilst off, tided my extrnal hard drive, cleaned my desk & have now resorted to watching movies on skygo on my phone. It's tedious I can tell you.

Hmmmm what to do next I wonder.

Thursday, 21 July 2011

Well that was a weird day.

Seeing as I booked this week off after the fighting at work the other week (figured if I am going to be sacked after my three month trial, would have a weeks paid leave out of it.)

Spending the week pretty much pottering about getting those chores you constantly put off due to being a lazy bastard normally. Not bad really, & have done more this week that any efforts made at the new job.

I wont list the pottering in total as that will bore, even me before you, but will tell you today was booked by 'Mumsie the territorial allotment owner' for erecting of very ugly fencing & general tidy of the allotment.

Bearing in mind we needed to go buy fence posts first, shopping with Mumsie is not pretty. We finally got to the bloody allotment after noon. Managed to get the fence bits we have so far erected & toddled back home by 17:00 ready for a nice lardy evening & an early night after aching like fook due to banging in fence posts.

All very well and good, until at 9pm I get a text from my oldest mate asking if he could crash here for the night as he had locked himself out of his house & couldn't get hold of his mother who has spare keys.
Explained I was already in PJ's & a still a bit stoned from my 5pm post Mumsie joint but if he hadn't managed to get hold of someone in an hour to give me a shout.
Evidently & couple of hours later he's now asleep on the sofa bed in the living room & I am now very much wide awake in the bedroom on my very noisy laptop.

I just need to figure out a stealth way to evacuate the pissy cat out of the bedroom now so as to not stink me out. Shotgun is looking favourable :D

Hmmmmmmm

Tuesday, 12 July 2011

ok, I shall try to make more of an effort today...

It all went a bit 'Pete Tong' last night

I had every intention on blogging a decent amount, catching up and all that tat but by the time the laptop sorted itself out & I had transferred back to this one I was buggered & went to bed... out like a light.

Hopefully after only having had a vodka I 'should' be able to produce slightly more than one rubbish paragraph.

Right, so what's gone on?

The new job hasn't been the best up until today. The new boss is a very big bolshie 'spade is a spade' type and after a month of a half of me treading on eggshells so as not to make the daft fucker flare up at the stupidest thing (he does this often)
He pretty much came into out CAD office and ripped me a new arsehole for making him look a cunt in front of the client of this particular job as it had taken so long.
It's not having a go at me I had an issue with, it was the way it was done. you DONT talk to people that way, be it staff or not. So whilst watching everyone else in my office preeeetty much hide under their desks, I argued back, as his facts were wrong and I didn't warrant a bollocking at all.

I have nothing against getting shafted if it was my fault & will quite happily stick my hand up and admit it but to shred me and it's not my fault... nah.
My final words after "Don't you call me a cunt" were:
"So, are you going to let me at least fight my own side here and explain the situation?"
One word answer of "NO" and the Alan Brazil looky likey stomped off out of the office.
It was as funny as fuck & I burst out laughing after he left.

I would normally take a row as heated as that to heart but to be honest why bother? If the guy doesn't like me, then come the end of my three month trial in August he'll sack me. Simple as that.
No skin off my nose. Been nice seeing you and all that shit.
I must confess though, I didn't like not being able to give my 'in my defence' speech so emailed him when I got home. Nothing harsh, just stating the facts, spit the bones out of that type thing. Nothing was ever mentioned about it after that.

After some of the other staff who witnessed said 'outburst' commented on the fact that they would never talk to him like that, figured my days were numbered & have quite enjoyed being exceptionally happy go lucky, getting on with it and generally not giving a rats arse what happens.

Until today.

Last week when it was quite quiet workload wise, I looked through the list of jobs to to & made a start on one of the larger projects which had been earmarked for my immediate supervisor who was, at that time on leave.
Nothing hard about the job, just quite a big one consisting of 16 drawings but needing a bit of common sense & brains to make head or tail of the instructions.
Sat down, got on. Finished it Friday. Printed them all off, left them on bosses desk to check before anything was sent out to clients as per usual.

Boss clumped up to my desk today, sprawls out the drawings asked for a couple of amendments and then says "Bloody good job, well done" and stomps off again.
You could have picked me up off the floor.
Then, if that wasn't odd enough, one of the yard foreman's collared me this afternoon and said boss had been singing my praises this morning in their team meeting too.

FFS! Does this man have more hormones & mood swings than a bird? I think so!
Not that I am arguing, standing up to him was probably the best thing and in all honesty, I wouldn't have let him get away with talking to me like that anyway but I think it might have set the president as such. Very odd but hey ho.

So there's a weeny bit of a catch up, will share more soon. Unless you are all bored shitless already. Which wouldn't be a surprise.

Apologies. Returning to my homeland,,,,,

Confusion is my middle name, well actually it's Ann but you get the gist of it.

I keep forgetting to come and share yet more delightful ramblings of tat in here and when I do finally make the effort, boot up the noisy laptop I sit here initially faffing about moving the bloody thing back to it's original home. I am slightly trollied so to be expected.

So what snippets of excitement have passed by without even the hint of a mention? Quite a few things, some which are worth mentioning but not yet.

Oh fuck it. I'm going to finish this tomorrow.

I'll see you a new job & raise you a squirrel.

No, haven't completely lost it, which after such a long day, you would have thought I would be shouting, screaming and spitting chips by now.

Nah.

Ended up working for the old company, AND the new one for pretty much all of the day.

Previous boss called at the beginning of the week, asking if I could do a small job, nothing huge. Half day measuring and the drawing I could do in the evening so as not to annoy my new boss by being away too much.

Not that I mind doing these wee jobs for old boss, but in reality it wasn't actually a land survey but a building measure out. Something he would have been VERY capable of doing himself without bothering me. Also the fact I know he hates doing them.
That fact has pissed me off enough to warrant me saying no,
should he ask for any more.
Fuck'em.
On the plus side, we finished measuring up by 10AM, toddled back to work earlier than anticipated and have had one of the most insanely manic days ever, with me not finishing this evening until after 6PM and you know what?
I bloody LOVED it!

Lost my marbles? Not really. Just having a job that will finally tax my brain instead of larding about and knowing that I CAN actually progress up in the company with a worthy salary to boot would put a smile on the face of any old nugget really.

First day nerves? My arse. Too old for that squit!

Yep, I've really enjoyed my first day with the new company.

Nothing horrendously taxing, systems I will pick up quickly, seemingly nice people & pretty much on my doorstep compared to the locations of my previous couple of years work.
Did get slightly quiet this afternoon, as the two people who were supposed to be showing me the ropes needed to go out for most of the day - but gave me time to google all things traffic managementie I would be able to use for reference whilst training up.

On the downside thanks to the old job when boss man (who was nice enough to not make me do an official notice period) emailed saying a survey we did in the last couple of weeks would need some additional levels added to it and could I go do it Saturday. Meh.

Oh well, I suppose I can't really not do it for him! Poor old bugger.

Evening all.

As with the most things with life, in the last 2 months it's done that whole 360 degree spin you round so quick you wonder how the hell you land on your feet and not your arse *pun intended*

I'm actually still trying to get my head round the events of today, so please excuse if this seems to be quite erratic and here and there.
Its just how my head is right now.

So for the past 4 weeks we have had hardly any work in. Not that this would normally be an issue, but with Legs being out of work for a short while, the MRI scan on his back showing that he is in fact quite broken, one result as advised from his doctor that he really shouldn't be driving trucks for a living as it's just going to break him more... not good really.

Today however he went for an interview for (yes I know) a driving job, but a job all the same and got it.
The good thing is it's not horrendous long hours and it's actually nights so fingers crossed will get him out of his weird not sleeping pattern and in breaks give him the opportunity to do the qualifications he will need to actually get himself out of the driving game for good before his body gives up on him.
I am proud of the fact he is still trying his hardest to keep us afloat.

Then there is me.... little ole' me. Land surveyor to the stars *ok, not really*

Friday I sent my CV to a company advertising for a CAD operative. The money was just a bit more than what I am getting now but the hours were more stable, so figured... No work basic land surveying or CAD work which pays and has potential for me to improve myself.

Looks like it has a bit more potential than I thought.

I was telephoned on Sunday by the company, asking if I could come in for an "informal chat" So knowing we had no work, arranged today 10:30. Went in, had a grand hour long chat with the guy who called & the Chief Exec of the company and didnt get the job I initially applied for.
Bugger.

On the plus side, they actually 'created' a BETTER job, more money and pretty much said "when can you start then?" I even had to come up with a bloody title for it!

Fucking hell, not often that happens.

So, to say that I am actually ever so slightly chuffed is an understatement.
Proud as punch of the legs for working through pain - just to work bless him and for me getting a job I can get my teeth into again.

Added bonus? Getting to hand in my notice to Mr Boss Man.
Heh
